Exclusive Interview with CEO Vello Oselin from Haage Natural Mineral Water

Andreas Conrad: Can you tell us about the geographical location and natural environment of your mineral water source(s)?

CEO Vello Oselin: The mineral water of Haage comes from Estonia, originates from the small village of Haage in Southern Estonia. Estonia is well-known because we have some of the cleanest air in the world, we have over 200 islands and 52% of Estonia is covered with forest. Estonia is located in Northern Europe, specifically in the Baltic States.

In Estonia we have 500-million-year-old Silurian Ordovician layers and that’s where our mineral water comes from. Silurian Ordovician layers give our mineral water a unique taste and mineral composition. Completely untouched until you taste it!

Andreas Conrad: What specific minerals and trace elements are contained in your mineral water and how do they affect the health and flavour of the water?

CEO Vello Oselin: The natural minerals in Haage water help to maintain the body’s balance, especially after a hard day or active exercise. The neutral pH level (non-sparkling 7.0 – 7.6) and minerals (328 – 344 mg/l.) of water supports the metabolic processes and the immune system.

Haanja, which has a higher mineral content, is the perfect water for starting the day and restores the body after a long night. Rich in natural minerals (1883 – 2301 mg/l), Haanja stimulates metabolism, helps your body eliminate waste products and relieves fatigue.

Andreas Conrad: How do you ensure that your product meets the strict quality standards and regulations that apply to mineral water?

CEO Vello Oselin: Haage conducts far more analyses in its production than required by law, ensuring an even higher level of quality. In addition, Haage holds the ISO 22000:2018 certification, an international standard that specifies the requirements for a food safety management system. And moreover, we are finalizing the certification of FSSC 22000, which is more comprehensive, GFSI-recognized, and includes additional requirements for higher levels of food safety assurance.

Andreas Conrad: Can you tell us about the water treatment and bottling process at your plant?

CEO Vello Oselin: Haage natural mineral water offers clear thoughts of pure, untouched water and bottled directly from a depth of 210 meters. Enriched with minerals and filtered through layers of soil, this water comes from a certified natural mineral water well named Haage 210. Nature itself has already done most of the work – Haage simply helps it into the bottle, just as nature has shaped it. Haanja water reaches you from a 542 m deep glacial water deposit in Haanja Upland, which gives the water its unique mineral composition and slightly salty taste.

Andreas Conrad: What measures do you take to minimise the environmental impact of your production processes and promote sustainability?

CEO Vello Oselin: A special and minimalist bottle, created by local designers, proudly adorns any table. To protect our priceless treasure, the pure local nature, the Haage glass bottle is produced right here in Estonia, in Järvakandi, with the environment in mind. The glass bottle is more environmentally friendly, and its production at home is sustainable and controlled. In the production of the Haage glass bottle, domestic Tabina sand is also used, resulting in particularly clear and transparent glass, making it the perfect choice for bottling Estonia’s mineral water with its excellent taste qualities.

Andreas Conrad: Are there specific technological innovations or processes that you use in your production facility to ensure the purity and quality of the water?

CEO Vello Oselin: Our value lies in using our raw materials in their untouched form in the most innovative production facility. We follow the principle: Simplicity full of life.

Andreas Conrad: What role does the local community play in your production process and how are you involved in social and charitable initiatives?

HCEO Vello Oselin: Our dedication to supporting Estonian culture is intertwined with our passion for providing pure mineral water. Each bottle of our mineral water is not just a product, it’s a reflection of Estonia’s rich heritage. Andreas Conrad: How do you deal with issues of transparency and consumer trust in relation to the origin and quality of your mineral water?

CEO Vello Oselin: We maintain transparent and open communication with our customers, sharing every aspect of our production process. Moreover, Haage is pleased to welcome customers for a visit to our manufacturing facility.

Can you give us an insight into your long-term vision and strategy for the future of your business, particularly with regard to changing consumer preferences and environmental requirements?

We believe in the magic that comes from doing what you love and appreciating the simple things in life. Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that matter most.
